Trivia

This last weekend I spent 24 hours being sick. The kind of sick that just puts you to bed and bathroom. Nothing like "oh my gosh, that is the sickest I have ever been" sick, just "yah, I really can't go to church with dry heaves" kind of sick. About a month ago I gave up on FOX News because they are so anti Mitt. Now I am giving up on CNN because they are so pro Obama. So I am listening to more music and watching/listening to more old movies. I rediscovered "Gone With the Wind", "Spartacus", "Gigi", and "The Day of the Jackal". It seems that TCM is doing "31 days til the Oscars" or something like that, so they are showing all movies that were ever nominated for any reason. "The Day of the Jackal" was a great bit of luck because I read that book so many years ago and so loved it. I had forgotten all about it, but it all came back to me when I saw it. So in honor of the Oscars, I am naming my all time three favorite movies. I am sure my kids can guess them, but I will put them out there anyway for all the world to know. "Chariots of Fire" (running on the beach), "Fiddler on the Roof" (all those daughters), and "Seabiscuit" (love Jeff Bridges). I watched "Chariots of Fire" again recently, and it still inspires me, and the music cannot be surpassed. So just to get you in the mood for all those "Oscar" parties, there you go. I really don't watch the Oscars any more because I am so far out of it. I would like to say that I am going to do a better job of keeping up with the latest movies cause I am sure there are a lot of good ones out there, but I don't think so.

"A+ KISSES"

Recently, someone that I admire told me that something I had taught in a RS lesson had influenced their life for the better. So because it is about kisses and it is Valentine's Day, I thought I would share it. This is the experience that I talked about in my lesson.

Bill was in the Bishopric for seven years. Before that he was Executive Secretary and Assistant Executive Secretary to Bishop Harbertson (that is A LOT of tithing settlements). Sometime during one of those years of his service with President Harb, we attended a Christmas Party at their home for the Bishopric. We played one of those games where you exchange presents and then re-exchange them. I believe that if you could answer the question correctly, then you got to pick a different present. Anyway, one of the questions was "Did you kiss your spouse goodbye this morning?" My memory is that we had kissed that morning, but I might be giving us too much credit. At any rate, I remember leaving that party thinking, "I am never going to miss that question." It is kind of odd that I thought that, and kind of odd that I remember it, but nevertheless, I did and do. Well I can tell you today that I would probably give myself a B+ for a grade on kisses. The B+, however, is not for lack of quantity. We kissed almost every morning. In fact, if My Guy was on the phone, and he ususally was, he would pause for a kiss. The B+ is for qualtiy. I wish I had made every one of those kisses an "A+ KISS". Make YOUR kisses "A+ KISSES"!. I can promise you, you WON'T be sorry.

Happy Anniversary Babe!

When I visit with someone that is "newly" single because they have recently gone through a divorce, I always say, "Stay out of the grocery store on Valentine's Day", because it is crowded with men buying flowers and gifts". Happily for me, this doesn't apply. I have a wonderful memory from our honeymoon. Bill and I started dating in March, and we were married by the following Valentine's Day. We happened to be in Maui on our very first Valentine's Day together. PERFECT! I will NEVER forget walking into a grocery store in Maui and seeing all of the Valentine's Day "stuff", and realizing this important fact. SO NOW whenever I walk in to a grocery store and see the "stuff", it reminds me of that wonderful "first Valentine's Day", and I love it!!

Two years ago we celebrated our anniversary in ICU. Obviously, we were not happy about being in ICU, but we were thrilled to celebrate another year together. Last year we had enjoyed a two month hiatus from the hospital. We went to the Cheesecake Factory (a favorite), and did a Nordstrom stop by for my gift to Bill, a chance to pick out his own new tie! It was a wonderful day and a wonderful memory. Nice to have that one instead of the hospital one. Flecks of gold.

Celebrating anniversaries and Valentine's Day is WAY more fun with you, babe, than without you. Last year you sent me these gorgeous flowers for Valentine's Day. If not for the blog, I probably wouldn't have taken a picture. Another tender mercy. This year I will have to be content with the words of Jeff's talk as your gift to me. "She is an Angel in his life. A living, beautiful pink grandma named mary kay. She is his queen. He loves her so much." Right back at ya,babe.
